Jody has a relational and strengths-based practice which is both anti-oppressive and trauma informed utilizing both somatic and talk-therapy modalities.

Authentic Being offers individual and couples therapy services that are as unique as you are. Each individual is supported with a treatment plan that is specifically created for them. No two sessions are alike. If you haven’t had luck with talk therapy in the past – don’t give up! A more body-centred approach may be more effective for you.  It’s important to consider which styles and approaches best suit your needs. The Healing Power Of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) is a system of techniques and strategies based on more than 30 years of intense study of the human condition as it relates to the pursuit of excellence. By utilizing NLP exercises and systems, individuals develop awareness around their innermost motivations and desires, effectively broadening their awareness and expanding their opportunities.

NLP works by formulating positive outcomes, utilizing sensory feedback, and changing our perceptions and impressions of painful past events which may be contributing to our limiting beliefs and behaviours. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

This talk-therapy style offers work within the interconnected nature of thoughts, behaviours and emotions. How do your behaviours impact your thoughts and emotions? When you tell yourself certain things, how does that make you behave or feel? This therapy is often recommended by doctors as there has been a lot of research completed regarding this style of support. However, this does not mean necessarily that this is the best therapy, there are hundreds of different therapy modalities and sometimes you have to explore a few to find out which might be the most impactful and effective for you.  

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is simply a state of pronounced relaxation when your subconscious mind can more easily accept suggestion. This state of relaxation can be created quite naturally and becomes even easier to attain in subsequent visits. During hypnosis you will be able to hear everything and remember all that has occurred during the visit. 

 

Clinical hypnosis is used to access areas of experience and personality that are typically unavailable during a normal waking state. When accessing this area of consciousness, there is the potential to tap into your limitless resources that can help you manifest your goals and create solutions and alternatives to unwanted patterns.

Somatic EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a therapy that uses the brain’s ability to process and store information. By re-visiting this process within the specific steps of EMDR, it is possible to reduce or eliminate previously held trauma in the body. Through this process the previous thoughts and feelings associated with the traumatic incident can be changed and re-stored in less threatening ways in the body and mind. As there are specific steps involved in the therapy, there is an abundance of research that has been completed, leading many doctors to recommend this therapy for their patients.

Dialectical and Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical and Behavioural Therapy is an approach that helps people to manage and regulate their emotions in order to be better able to meet their goals and develop meaningful relationships.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is an approach that emphasizes the importance of values and how they impact our behaviour, thoughts and beliefs, leading to more intentional and meaningful change.

How long is each session?

Each session can vary from 1 hour to 3 hours, depending on the individual.

Come with an open mind looking forward to experiencing positive change and internal shifting.

Treatment sessions are completed in a safe, relaxed setting. You will be gently led through a series of self-directed exercises with your approval being met all along the way. Hypnosis is not necessarily a required component of your individual treatment plan.

Detailed invoicing will be provided to each client as is required by their particular insurer to help ease claims processing. In addition, you may be eligible for free sessions under Greenshield or Homewood Health depending on the Employee Assistance Program that your company offers.

 

If you have no insurance, we are happy to consider more equitable fee structures that will enable you to receive services.  Financial challenge should not exclude anyone from receiving the mental health supports that they need.
